Yesterday was a fun day at the reloading bench. It started in the morning with casting several hundred .452 dia round nose with the Lee 6-cavity mold before everyone woke up. After breakfast they had cooled so they got a light coat of Lee liquid alox. By lunch they were dry so we did some sizing and another light coat of lube. After everyone was in bed last night, I ran my first batch of separate components through the Dillon 650XL. Up until then, I had been using some already primed brass I had preped for the Lee Turret Press. What a difference just dumping the clean, yet unsized, brass into the feeder and just pulling the handle. I’m really impressed with the 650XL!
Okay, back to playing radio as well…
I finished getting the Dillon 650XL together and setup last night. I loaded a couple of rounds and can say nothing other than WOW. It’s such a step up from my old Lee turret press. I can’t believe I waited so long to move on to a true progressive press.
The old Lee still has it’s place for rifle callibers and pistol rounds that need to be weighed exactly or things done in small batches. But the Dillon 650XL in now the main machine for target rounds.
The PFR-3 and BBW are each about half finished but have somewhat stalled with work and family activities. But those as slowing down a little so I’ll get back to both this week.
This coming week marks our 10 year wedding anniversary. When most people think about anniversary gifts, they start thinking about rings and flowers and watches and elegant meals and so on… Well, those all have their place and no doubt she’ll be receiving some “sparkly” thinks from me later this week.
But… What’s a wife to get a husband that has 2 primary hobbies (amateur radio and shooting/reloading)??? This year there was no hiding it when the FedEx driver showed up. A Dillon 650XL with the automatic case feeder and 2 complete caliber conversions for our 2 most popular calibers. WOW!!! We both like to shoot and this only reinforces her support of it.
I have the best wife ever!!!
