I've wanted a nice HF base station for a while but have been reluctant to spend the money. It wasn't a big savings, but Ham Radio Outlet ran a special in March which was the best price I had seen for the ICOM 756ProIII. So, I went ahead and made the investment.

I won't go into all the technical details as there are numerous web sites out there with technical reviews as measured at the reviewers bench.

But, from a usability standpoint and user experience with working stations, I'm very impressed. The controls are easy to use and you can quickly change certain feature on the large multi-function display. The band scope is fabulous along with the filtering.

The first evening I had it on the air, the QCWA Sweepstakes and the Missouri Sweepstakes were running. I quickly made about 12 contacts and was impressed with the radio's ability to receive weak signals. Basically, if I could hear them I could work them. ...And usually on the first call.

Update 2013

After several years of great service, I decided to take the Elecraft leap and sold this radio.
